Signed Watercolor
Is my painting worth something?
I have an original signed watercolor painting by Marius Girard of the Notre Dame Chapels. The interesting thing is that when I searched for the painting I found results on paintings that were similar to it, but no exact. In some cases a few buildings in the background where exactly alike, but the rest of the painting was different. Do I have an original painting that was not copied, or reproduced? If so, how would I find out its worth? Please help!
It’s impossible to tell over the internet, but what you have is probably a print, a reproduction. A casual internet search turns up dozens of people asking the exact same question, including post on an art forum where at least one poster claims “I have a signed original painting by Marius Girard. Taped to the back was a newspaper article from Nov. 19,1972 from Lorain,Ohio. He was visiting friends and was 45 years old at the time. He became wealthy through French poatcards, creating an original then bought by a printing house ,lithographed and printed in blocks of 100,000.”
Of course, there is a simple way to find out. Look up your local art expert/appraiser, and have him evaluate the piece.
