How do you get sports cards graded?

What do I need to do to get some of my sports cards graded? Is there a preferred company to use? What is the typical cost of this and how long does it take to get graded? Thanks for all of your help!

The main company I know that does grading is Beckett, who makes the price guides. With them, you would send in your cards through the mail and the process begins.
