Painting India
Can I paint india ink over watercolor wash?
I’m doing a project and I wanted to paint an image in india ink over my watercolor wash. Will it bleed? This may be a stupid question but I’ve never done it before so I just want to check. I’ve only ever used india ink on dry bristol paper so I’m not sure how it would react on watercolor paper. Help?
I don’t think the ink will bleed at all if the watercolor is very dry. On the other hand, the ink wash may pick up some of the watercolor if you work it much at all. That may not matter at all, especially if your ink is full strength. Do be sure to wash your brush thoroughly when you are finished. Use a mild soap and cool, not hot, water. India ink is not water soluble once it’s dry.
